There will be a Scholastic Book Fair at PS 101 on Monday, November 13th through Thursday, November 16th. As you are aware, as part of the New York State Common Core Learning Standards, all children are encouraged to read level appropriate books to build comprehension. Students will have an opportunity to purchase books they can read for their enjoyment and educational assignments during the school year. Reading is the most important skill you can help support.
Books are reasonably priced, some available for as little as $4.00 plus tax. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to become a better reader, writer, speaker and listener through authentic literature choices. We encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Please Note: The State of New York requires that sales tax be collected on all items that are sold at Scholastic book fairs, therefore, we will be charging tax on all items. Here is an example of the tax table, so you can estimate the amount of spending money you may want to give your child:
$1.00 = $1.09 $4.99 = $5.43 $8.49 = $9.24 $10.99 = $11.96
$3.99 = $4.34 $5.99 = $6.52 $8.99 = $9.79 $11.99 = $13.05
$4.50 = $4.90 $6.99 = $7.61 $9.99 = $10.88
Parents may visit the Scholastic Book Fair on Thursday, November 16th during our Parent-Teacher Afternoon Conferences from 12:30 – 2:30 pm and during Evening Conferences at 4:20 – 7:20 pm. Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising kids as readers means getting involved while they’re young. Now is the time! Please share in this teaching and learning experience in your child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair. Please send your child to school with spending money in a sealed envelope (cash only). Labeled with your child’s name and class. Parent/Guardian sales (only) may be accepted via credit card payment or cash. We hope to see you there!
