Multicultural Display Case – Parent Letter
January 9, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We need your help with a very special project…
We are excited to announce that we will be celebrating various cultures throughout the school year to bring even more awareness to the diversity and connection we all share in PS 101.
Celebrating different cultures will help students understand and appreciate various cultures, as well as their own, highlighting both differences and common interests.
Across from the main office is a display case that will be used to showcase cultural heritage. Each month we will display artifacts that showcase and honor a culture. At the end of the month, we will change the display to celebrate a different culture.
This is where we need your help!
We are asking parents to lend any artifacts or items they may have that represent the culture that we are celebrating for that month. There will be a collection box located in the main office where you can drop off your items throughout the month. Please label your item with your child’s name and class, so the item can be returned to you at the end of each month.
Items that we are looking to collect for the display case should symbolize your culture by representing:
- Pictures of Food
- Artwork
- Personal pictures from the country where that culture is prevalent
- Currency
- Flag
- Music
- Sports
- Landmarks
- Traditions
- Literature
We are we are now collecting items for the month of February to celebrate Black History Month. Please drop off your labeled items in the main office cultural collection box.
Thank you for involvement and dedication!
Sincerely,
The P.S. 101 Multi-Cultural Team
