Additional School Counselor

Greetings Parents/Guardians,

I am happy to announce we have secured a second School Counselor two days a week, in addition to Ms. Kipriadis, to assist with supporting our students’ concerns, issues, etc. Ms. DeLauro will be joining our staff on Mondays and Thursdays.

What is the role of a  School Counselor?

Think back to a time you may have had a problem with another person or something happened in your life (at home, work, relationship or in school) and it led to you feeling sad, angry or upset because you weren’t sure how to handle it. The purpose of our counselors is to help our students learn skills to deal with issues as they arise so their school work is not effected. Often times, one or two conversations are enough to teach a person how to acknowledge what they are feeling and how to handle a particular type of situation.

At PS 101 while we focus on academics, we also take pride in our ability to help students navigate the waters of life.

Letter from our new School Counselor:

Hello! My name is Teresa DeLauro and I am the new School Counselor at P.S. 101. I will be at P.S. 101 on Mondays and Thursdays. I will meet with mandated, at risk, and any students with concerns in group and/or individual counseling sessions. Often, I will conduct lessons within the classroom on various topics such as social skills, bullying, anxiety, etc. I am excited to collaborate with teachers and staff to be advocates for our students, ensuring they have a successful school year!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working together!
