Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) changes lives—studies show that SEL improves well-being and academic outcomes, builds positive school climate, and provides children with the necessary skills to excel in today’s workforce. Yet many members of our communities don’t know about SEL yet.
SEL Day is an opportunity to spread the word about the importance and impact of SEL. Working together, we can raise awareness for SEL, bring on new SEL stakeholders, create artifacts that demonstrate SEL in action, share SEL best practices… and more! Our teacher teams will be using instructional resources to enlighten, educate and inspire students with learning tasks dedicated to social-emotional growth.
For SEL Day, we are sharing the following resources. These are fun and simple way to incorporate SEL into your home routines:
- PS 101 Virtual Counseling Corner – Many resources and mindfulness practices
- The DOE’s Parent University invites NYC families to a series of virtual courses on social-emotional learning (SEL). In these courses, families will learn strategies and have access to tools that promote a successful learning environment for their children. Courses will be conducted in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Flyer with more details attached.
I hope you will find these resources useful and thank you for your dedication in promoting SEL with your children!
