Dear PS 101 Parents/Guardians:
Our school has been implementing the Leader in Me, which teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader, for the past three years. Our school will be conducting the Leader In Me survey called MRA (Measurable Result Assessment) to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school.
The data from these surveys will also help us track the impacts of the Leader in Me process and implement key practices more fully. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school, we are asking you to complete a survey (without sharing your name or other identifying information) that will be available through the Web link https://tinyurl.com/y3re7knj.
The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. This survey will take about 10-15 minutes of your time. If you do not have access to the Internet or a computing device, the classroom teacher will provide one for you during our Leadership Night on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
We truly appreciate you taking your time to take this survey. Thank you for being part of our growing community.
Gregg Korrol, Principal
and our P.S.101 Lighthouse Team

PS 101 is a Leader In Me School, now in year 2. We spent our first year focussing on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (look at the image to your left to see the 7 Habits). Our Goal for this year is to help students create goals and be accountable to those goals. By the end of September, your child will have a personal goal. Children will also have accountability notebooks where they track their own progress. Your child’s teacher can tell you more about this. The Importance of Goals
The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model and process developed in partnership with educators that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. It is based on principles and practices of personal, interpersonal and organizational effectiveness, and upon the powerful premise that every child possesses unique strengths and has the ability to be a leader.
The Leader in Me helps students learn how to become self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, set and track goals, do their homework, prioritize their time, manage their emotions, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint persuasively, resolve conflicts, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life. The process helps students develop the skills and self-confidence they need to lead their lives and succeed in school and beyond.
You are your child’s first and best teacher. You lay the foundation for the education of your children’s mind, heart, body, and spirit. No matter what’s going on in your child’s school, you can help your son or daughter discover the leader within and prepare for a great life of contribution and service.
Below are resources you can use when speaking to your child about personal Leadership and the 7 Habits.
