Chess Club After School Lottery for 5th Grade Students

Chess Kids After School Lottery Form 2021 If you are interested in attending the Friday, After-School Chess program, please fill out this survey. If you answer No to any of the following questions, it may disqualify you for eligibility in this program.

Thank you for your interest in joining our 5th Grade Chess Club! Seating is limited and will be chosen through a lottery. We will meet on Friday afternoons starting January 22nd from 3pm-4pm via Zoom only. 

Our goal is to bring something extra to the table and Chess is a great game for people of all ages to learn! However, it is important for us to know that the 5th grade teachers expect our students joining the Chess Club to be on top of their assignments before joining us each week. 

Learning Bridges Program

The DOE and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) are collaborating to launch Learning Bridges – a new program that will provide free child care options for children from 3-K through 8th grade from 8am -3pm on days when they are scheduled for remote learning. There are over 200 Learning Bridge sites around the City and each site will be matched with at least one school to recruit students.  We are excited to inform you that PS101 has been paired with the below Learning Bridges site.

Note, students must be enrolled in blended learning/hybrid schedules (100% remote students are not eligible) and attend PS101 (or reside in a matched homeless shelter) to be able to attend a Learning Bridges program.  To enroll in Learning Bridges, families should fill out the application available here:

ExpandedED After-School Program for Grades 3, 4, 5

Dear Parents and Guardians,

PS101 and Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island, Inc. are pleased to announce that once again our school has received funding from Councilman Mark Treyger to run the ExpandedEd After-School Program.

As in the past, the ExpandedEd Program, along with the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island, will partner with P.S.101 in providing extra Literacy and Mathematics, as well as the Arts. The instructional part of the program includes standardized test preparation, homework help and social- emotional awareness on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, while the Wednesdays and Thursdays part of the week will focus on the Performing Arts such as Drama, Art and Chorus.

The After- School program will be

  • Fully remote
  • Only for Grades 3, 4, and 5 students
  • Operates Monday – Friday 3:00 – 4:30.
  • Please be advised there are only 85 seats for this program.
  • Application Deadline: November 20, 2020
  • All potential participants will then be chosen via a lottery- based system.

If your child is chosen from the lottery based system, you will be notified and given forms to complete before the start date November 30, 2020. Please note that this is a five-day week program with attendance expected each day. If your child displays poor attendance they will be excluded from the program.
