Happy Thanksgiving from the PS 101 Staff

Dear PS 101 Families,

Every year, whether it’s entering Summer, Holiday season, or Thanksgiving, I send a letter to you with basically the same message- be thankful for what you have, take care of yourself, and create the life you want to experience. At no time in the past, did I ever think we would be where we are now, and yet the funny part is, nothing in my message will change.

So many people spend their lives pointing at and blaming external circumstances for how they feel. Whether it’s a bad relationship, a family member, work, traffic, the rain, there is always another excuse because if they had to take a step back and say, ”It’s not about external events, but my own thoughts that are creating my life,” they would have to take ownership and action to change, which for some is very scary.

Why do I bring this up now? Because Co-Vid is many people’s excuse in a line of reasons why they can’t be happy or have the life they want, and next year, when there is a vaccine, and life enters a new normal, they will again find another excuse to feel the way they do. Every year I send the same message in a different form because I believe in the importance of celebrating this minute, the here and now. What is wrong is always available, and so is what’s right. You can spend your time focusing on what you don’t have, but I assure you there are over a billion people, yes Billion, who would trade lives with you in a second to have all the things you have.

What and who is in your life that you can be truly #grateful for right now?

I hope you will take a moment to really look at your life and celebrate what you DO have; everything from your family and friends, to the running water in your pipes that allow you to take a warm shower. When is now a good time to hug your #child, keep them close and tell them you love them?

I also want to thank you for entrusting your children to our school. We work very hard to create a learning environment we call the #ps101experience, where students thrive, enjoy and learn to push themselves to be their best. That doesn’t mean it’s always smooth and easy, and frankly it shouldn’t be. It’s in the challenges we face that we grow and learn. Whether we are in #school or in a #remote on-line learning situation, our staff will continue to strive to bring knowledge and skills to your #children that will help them succeed in life.

On behalf of the #PS101 staff, we wish you a joyous #Thanksgiving filled with moment of laughter and love.

With respect,
