May 15th is Parent Engagement Leadership Night

Dear PS 101 Families:

We are excited to share with you that Wednesday, May 15th is Parent Engagement Leadership Night starting at 4:30pm sharp in our auditorium. The evening will showcase the work our staff and students have devoted to improving self-worth, integrity and peer relations.

4:30- 5:00 pm
In the auditorium, we will hold a Leader In Me (LIM)-Student Lighthouse Presentation highlighting and explaining the 7 habits and how you can use the habits at home to support your child and family.

5:00-6:15 pm
In classrooms, students will share their Leader In Me binders with you, including their Wildly Important Goals and their victories throughout the school year. Parents will then share in an interactive activity with their child.

I look forward to seeing you and spending this time with you and your child.

The Leader In Me: Goal Setting with your child

PS 101 is a Leader In Me School, now in year 2. We spent our first year focussing on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (look at the image to your left to see the 7 Habits). Our Goal for this year is to help students create goals and be accountable to those goals. By the end of September, your child will have a personal goal. Children will also have accountability notebooks where they track their own progress. Your child’s teacher can tell you more about this. The Importance of Goals

The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model and process developed in partnership with educators that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. It is based on principles and practices of personal, interpersonal and organizational effectiveness, and upon the powerful premise that every child possesses unique strengths and has the ability to be a leader.

The Leader in Me helps students learn how to become self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, set and track goals, do their homework, prioritize their time, manage their emotions, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint persuasively, resolve conflicts, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life. The process helps students develop the skills and self-confidence they need to lead their lives and succeed in school and beyond.

You are your child’s first and best teacher. You lay the foundation for the education of your children’s mind, heart, body, and spirit. No matter what’s going on in your child’s school, you can help your son or daughter discover the leader within and prepare for a great life of contribution and service.
