Climate Action Day: Energy

Dear PS 101 Families:

Today, Wednesday, February 4th, schools across New York City, including PS 101, will participate in our second Sustainability Climate Action Day of the year!

This citywide initiative encourages students to learn about and take action toward protecting our planet. Our focus for this Climate Action Day was ENERGY, understanding where our energy comes from, how it is used, and what we can do to conserve it in our school and community.

Throughout the day, students will engage in lessons and activities centered on energy conservation, including:

  • Learning about renewable and non-renewable energy sources
  • Exploring how electricity is generated and how we use it in our daily lives
  • Identifying simple ways to conserve energy at school and at home
  • Brainstorming individual and classroom habits that reduce unnecessary energy use

Together, we’re working to build awareness and develop sustainable habits that will benefit our environment today and for years to come.

Thank you for supporting our efforts at home by encouraging conversations with your child about how small actions, like turning off lights when not in use, unplugging devices, and being mindful of heating and cooling—can make a big difference.

Let’s continue to make PS 101 a model for sustainability and care for our planet!

Sincerely,

Gregg Korrol
