NYC Kids RISE – Save for College Program

Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families:

We are so excited to share with you that the Save for College Program is available to families at P.S. 101! This scholarship and savings program provides families, schools, and communities with a way to work together to invest in their children’s futures. It is managed by the nonprofit NYC Kids RISE in partnership with the Department of Education and the City of New York.

Every kindergarten and new first grade student at NYC public schools and participating charter schools is eligible to participate in the Program, regardless of family income or immigration status. Here are some resources with more information about the Program:

This program has two parts: Scholarship and Savings. To get every family started, your child will be automatically enrolled in the Program and receive an NYC Scholarship Account with a free $100 initial allocation from NYC Kids RISE. Programs like these are more important than ever in supporting families with resources to create a financial foundation for students’ educational futures.

What’s next? Your child will be automatically enrolled in the Program unless you choose not to participate by “opting-out.” This means that your child will automatically be enrolled as long as you TAKE NO ACTION during the upcoming opt-out process, which lasts for 30 days.

After your 30-day opportunity to opt out is over, if you have chosen to stay in the Program, your child’s NYC Scholarship Account will be funded with the initial $100 by NYC Kids RISE in early 2023. You will receive information about how to activate and view the account when it is ready. We will share information and host events throughout the year about the Program and how we can work together as a community to save and plan for your child’s future.

In addition to the resources included in this memo, our Save for College Liaison and School Counselor, Ms. Kipriadis we will be sharing a tutorial

If you have any questions, you can reach out to Save for College Liaison and School Counselor, Ms. K. Kipriadis at You can also call NYC Kids RISE at 833-543-7473 or email
