PTA Bake Sale – September 18
Greetings PS 101 Families:
Welcome back to another year at PS 101! Our PTA is kicking off the school year with their first bake sale on September 18th, 2025, during all students’ lunch periods.
Please show your support by bringing in store bought pre-packaged donations of all kinds of goods (NO NUTS OR SEEDS) to the PTA room by September 17th. Label your donation with your child(ren)’s name and class, and they will receive a voucher for a free item at the bake sale.
All proceeds from the bake sale will go towards the school-wide pumpkin patch event. Thank you for your continued support!

Welcome Back to School Night at PS 101!
Dear PS 101 Families:
We are thrilled to welcome you to Back to School Night at PS 101 on Tuesday, September 16th, taking place in your child’s classroom! To best accommodate family schedules, classroom teachers will host three identical in-person presentations at the following times.
You may attend any of the three sessions that works best for you:
- 4:30 PM
- 5:30 PM
- 6:30 PM
Please be advised:
*PS101 Main Doors open at 5min to the start of the session (4:25pm/5:25pm/6:25pm)
*Teachers begin their presentation approximately 10min after (4:40pm/5:40pm/6:40pm) which allows parents time to find the classroom
*Main Doors will close 20min after the start of each session (4:50pm/5:50pm/6:50pm).
If you arrive after doors closed you will wait for the next session to begin.
Information Sessions:
- Classroom routines and behavior expectations
- Parent + teacher communication and partnership
- Operational procedures (field trips, absence notes)
- Curriculum and instruction highlights, including Into Reading/IReady/Envisions/My World/Amplify, Leader In Me and standardized test preparation.
- Homework guidelines and assessment practices
- A brief Q&A to close each session
Our Cluster Specialty Teachers (Dance, Science, LEGO Robotics, Physical Education, STEM, Visual Arts/Graphic Design, Library, and Music) as well as ESL personnel will also present in person at 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, and 6:30 PM.
Related Services Virtual Sessions:
Our Related Service Providers, including Speech and Language Therapists, School Psychologists, Social Workers, and Guidance Counselors, will host virtual presentations at the same time slots: 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, and 6:30 PM.

PS 101 School and Schoolyard Important Safety Reminders
Dear PS 101 Families,
Please be advised of the following safety practices in and outside of the school building. Safety is a shared responsibility amongst our community and by practicing these safety protocols, you can help us maintain a safe and respectful environment for students and everyone in our school community.
School and Schoolyard Rules:
- We love animals, but for safety reasons dogs and other pets are not allowed in the school building, schoolyard and dismissal areas. While you absolutely love your pets, please be reminded that some children and adults get scared.
- Do not use electric scooters or e-bikes in the schoolyard or on the school ramps.
- Scooters and bicycles are not permitted for use in the schoolyard before 3:00 pm which ensures a safe and orderly dismissal.
- Students are not permitted to play ball in the school yard during dismissal. After everyone dismisses at 3:00 pm, students may use the park with parent supervision.
- Do not bring glass containers onto school grounds. Glass containers of any kind pose as a risk, and we will discard any of these items if observed in the classroom. Please ensure only plastic containers, bottles, or jars are used for all purposes.
- When using the schoolyard during afterschool hours, you must remain vigilant and supervise your children during outdoor play. Do not leave your children unattended, especially younger, non-school age children.
- Smoking is not allowed in the schoolyard or around the school building as per NYS Law.
- Encourage kind and respectful behavior toward others with children and adults.

Emergency Preparedness
Greetings PS101 Families,
Safety is always our top priority in PS 101.
All NYC schools are required to hold several safety drills throughout the school year. The two drills that are most common are Evacuation Drills (formerly known as a Fire drill) and Lockdown Drills.
You can learn more about these drills here
Our first Evacuation Drill will be held today, with 1-2 per week each week through September into early October (totaling 6 drills as per requirement). We will also hold a Lockdown drill in October.

Afterschool Programs at PS 101
Dear PS 101 Parents,
PS 101 has several After-School options you can choose from. Some are free, some are paid for, some are a few days a week, some are 5 days a week. Please see below for information.
After-School options:
- For all Grades: BCA’s DYCD COMPASS Afterschool Program at PS 101 (see information below to register)
- For Grades 2, 3, 4 & 5 :PS101 will have a separate After-School Program starting late September for grades 2, 3, 4, & 5 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from approx 2:30pm-4:30pm (the time listed here may change). More Information forthcoming.
- For Grades 4 & 5: PS101 will have a brand new (and limited space) band After-School program (Violin and Brass Instruments for Grades 4 & 5). More Information forthcoming.
- For all Grades: The Angel Advantage Center is also an After-School Program that is available 5 days a week. Please contact 718-644-0563 (*this is a paid for program). This program is held inside PS101.
- For all Grades: Elite After School is also an After-School Program that is available 5 days a week.
Please contact Mr. Lam at 718-996-6888 (*this is a paid for program). This program is housed at a separate location.
📢 BCA Afterschool Program at PS 101
We are excited to share that PS101 has partnered with the BCA (Brooklyn Chinese Association) for BCA’s DYCD COMPASS Afterschool Program at PS 101. Enrollment applications for K–5 students starts today through the Discover DYCD website: https://discoverdycd.dycdconnect.nyc/home.
Applications must be submitted by September 15, 2025.
A lottery will be conducted after the deadline (space is limited to only 20 seats per grade).
Accepted families will be notified directly by BCA.
*Please note the BCA After-School program is not run buy PS 101 and will not have PS101 teachers working it.
