ExpandED After-School Program Grades 3, 4 & 5 students

PS101/ Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island, Inc.

September 13, 2022

Dear PS 101 Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to a new school year. We hope you had an enjoyable and restful summer. We are pleased to announce that once again our school has received funding from Councilman Ari Kagan for the ExpandEd Program After-School Program.

As in the past, the ExpandEd Program, along with the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island, will partner with P.S.101 in providing extra Literacy and Mathematics, and the Arts. The instructional part of the program includes standardized test preparation, homework help and peer tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays, while the Wednesday and Thursday part of the week will focus on the Performing Arts such as Dance, Drama, Art and Chorus.

Applications are now on-line at the link below. There are a very limited number of seats and therefore all potential participants will be chosen via a lottery- based system.

If your child is chosen from the lottery-based system, you will be notified and given forms to complete by September 30. Please note that this is a four-day week program with attendance expected each day.  If your child displays poor attendance, they will be excluded from the program.

The Google Form can be accessed with the following link:

Application Deadline: September 20, 2022.

Please direct any questions to FMastrianni@schools.nyc.gov

Seeking 5th Grade students for the Morning Pledge

Dear PS101 5th Graders,

Do you have what it takes to be a morning announcer? Let’s see!

Job description:

Seeking 2-4 5th Grade students who will work together to record the pledge that is played daily in our school as part of morning announcements.

What do I need to do?

You and your friends (must be at least 2 , and no more than 4 , 5th Grade students) will work together to slowly and clearly read out the introduction and pledge. (the script is posted below- you are to read everything in quotations)

You will record the morning announcements at home and email it as an mp3 file to 21k101@schools.nyc.gov along with the names of the students who are on the recording, as well as their classes, no later than August 28, 2022.

“Good morning PS 101 students and staff, please rise for your opening exercises”

(pause for a count of 3),

then continue,

“please face the flag, ready, pledge.”

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

The recording needs to be clear and read well. One recording will be chosen to use as part of our daily morning announcements.

Good luck to all who enter!
