PS 101 is proud to continue our 20-year partnership with Marquis Studios, bringing professional teaching artists into our classrooms through engaging 10-week arts residencies. These hands-on experiences encourage creativity, collaboration, and cultural exploration while supporting student learning across the curriculum. Please see this year’s Marquis Studios residency offerings below:

Residency: Creative Movement > This residency serves as an introduction to dance which allows students to improve spatial awareness, rhythm and body control.

Residency:  Puppet Making > Students take a hands-on approach to the craft of puppetry, using an array of visual art materials to design and build their own creative puppets with unique character traits and expressions.

Residency: Circus Arts > Students engage in physical theater and performance art circus techniques such as clowning, and comedy, in addition to learning skills such as juggling, balancing, and floor exercises.

Residency: Mosaic Art > Students in this residency learn how to arrange geometric paper shapes and/or pre-cut tiles into unique patterns and images. Students may work individually or as a team.

Residency: Abstract Art > Students express ideas and feelings through color, pattern, and spatial relationships rather than literal or figurative representations. Students may use a variety of mixed media like collage, drawing, painting, paper maché etc.

Grade Five: 8 Classes
Classes: 501-502-503-504-505-506-507-548
Residency: Mixed Visual Arts > In this engaging exploration of 2D and 3D art, students work with a variety of materials, tools, and techniques to create original works. Students develop their understanding of color, line, texture, and composition while building confidence and creativity through hands-on experience.

Casa Grant: AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM : GRADES 2 + 3 and Grades 4 + 5
Residency: YOGA Wellness- Teaching Artists lead students through self-reflective exercises and ability-appropriate yoga poses. Students learn breath control, balance, and muscular coordination.
CYCLE II January to March + CYCLE III March to June
*YOGA > 15  sessions – Grades 2-3 (25 students)
*YOGA > 15 sessions – Grades 4-5 (25 students)
