Greetings PS 101 Families:
The Science Scoop is our monthly update from our science cluster team, As lead teachers, we will design a monthly newsletter to keep you in the science loop with the science scoop!
We want to give PS 101 families a peek inside our science labs! Each issue highlights hands-on grade-level units, spotlights inspiring Scientists of the Month (like Dr. Mae Jemison) and shares fun facts to spark curiosity at home.
In September, our young scientists have been busy investigating:
- Pre-K: Exploring our 5 senses.
- Kindergarten: Learning about living and non-living things.
- 1st Grade: Exploring all about light and sound.
- 2nd Grade: Learning about how to be a scientist and exploring landforms.
- 3rd Grade: Investigating why a train might float and why animals use camouflage.
- 4th Grade: Experimenting with fresh water vs. salt water (floating vs. sinking) and learning how we communicate.
- 5th Grade: Discovering the difference between substances and mixtures.
Scientist of the Month: Dr. Mae Jemison:
Check out the Scientist of the Month board in school to learn more about Dr. Jemison and her inspiring contributions to our world!
Science Fact of the Month:
One million Earths could fit inside the Sun!
Ask your young scientist what theyāve been discovering in science class this month! The Science Scoop shows how our students are learning to think, experiment, and explore like scientists every day. Find out the scoop every month with our PS 101 scientists!

Sincerely,
Mr. Lee and Ms. Warner
