Climate Action Day: Water

Dear PS 101 Families,

Today, Wednesday, May 20th, schools across New York City, including PS 101,will  participate in our final Sustainability Climate Action Day of the year!

This citywide initiative encourages students to learn about and take action toward protecting our planet. Our focus for this Climate Action Day is WATER, understanding why water is essential, how we use it, and what we can do to conserve and protect this vital natural resource.

Throughout the day, students engaged in lessons and activities centered on water conservation, including:

  • Learning about the water cycle and where our water comes from
  • Exploring how water is cleaned, distributed, and used in our daily lives
  • Identifying ways to reduce water waste at school and at home
  • Brainstorming habits that support clean waterways and healthy aquatic ecosystems

Together, we’re helping students understand the importance of water and how mindful choices can protect this precious resource for future generations.

Thank you for supporting our efforts at home by encouraging conversations with your child about small actions, like turning off faucets tightly, taking shorter showers, and preventing pollution, that help safeguard our water supply.

Let’s continue to make PS 101 a model for sustainability and care for our planet!

Sincerely,

Gregg Korrol

What’s The Science Scoop in May?

Dear PS 101 Families:

Spring is blooming with scientific thinking at PS 101, and we are excited to share the May edition of the Science Scoop! This month’s issue highlights the exciting discoveries, hands-on investigations, and curiosity-driven learning taking place throughout our classrooms.

Check out what we learned together:

  • A spotlight on our Scientist of the Month.
  • A fun and engaging science fact to spark discussion at home.
  • A glimpse into the meaningful investigations and scientific learning taking place across grade levels

From asking questions and making observations to exploring the world through experiments and real-world connections, our students continue to grow as thoughtful, curious young scientists every day.

We hope you enjoy reading this month’s Science Scoop and celebrating the amazing science learning happening throughout our PS 101 community!

Thank You for Supporting Our Caring Hearts Fundraiser!

Dear PS 101 Families:

Thank you for your incredible support of our recent Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association fundraiser. With the generosity and enthusiasm of our school community, we are proud to share that PS 101 raised $2326 in support of this important cause.

This effort was made even more special through the leadership of our student council Little Lighthouse Team, who helped promote, organize, and inspire participation across the school.

Your participation in our bake sale brought our school together in a meaningful way. Each contribution, big or small played a role in supporting important work in research, education, and awareness in the fight against heart disease.

We appreciate your continued partnership to causes that make a difference beyond our building.

Sincerely,

Gregg Korrol, Principal
